What's special?
As a classical scholar with university degrees in Classical Archaeology and Ancient and Modern Greek Philology I did not set out to become an interpreter. This line of work suggested itself to me rather by coincidence when I first started working for the Greek Consul General in Berlin in 1993. Since then it seems to have taken over my life almost entirely. I became a sworn interpreter for the Berlin courts and also worked for governments at a bilateral level and for many cultural institutions. I even decided to take myself off to Geneva to get another diploma, so as to be able to work in simultaneous interpreting too. Being a German-English bilingual certainly helped, but I have had most of my jobs with Greek. When studying in Greece I tended to see Modern Greek just as a kind of hobby horse, but eventually I ended up taking it nearly as seriously as Uncle Toby did his!
I still have an academic career of my own which allows me to keep in touch with university life and some very interesting people – my students.
